The Challenge
A robotics company needed an exterior shell and structural covers for a humanoid-style platform — lightweight, serviceable, and compatible with internal frame mounting. Industrial design surfaces were defined in Rhino; they required CAD-native shells for CNC/printing, clip access panels, and FEA-ready geometry for drop and handling loads.
Our Approach
- Translated ID surfaces to SolidWorks with manufacturable split lines and draft
- Designed modular cover set: torso clamshell, limb caps, head enclosure with service latch
- Integrated mounting bosses to internal aluminum frame with adjustable slots for assembly tolerance
- Ran structural FEA on clip and screw bosses for 1m drop handling load case
- Optimized wall thickness and rib layout for SLS/ CNC hybrid prototype path
- Delivered textured render pack + STEP for quote
