The Challenge

A shipyard needed a 500kVA shore power connection system compliant with IEC 80005 standards. The system had to operate in harsh marine environments with salt spray, high humidity, and wide temperature variations. Additionally, the design required galvanic isolation between shore and ship electrical systems while maintaining low voltage drop over 100m cable runs.

Our Approach

  • Designed IP66-rated outdoor enclosure with marine-grade materials
  • Selected isolation transformer with K-factor rating for harmonic loads
  • Implemented active power factor correction for utility compliance
  • Designed custom bus bar system for minimal voltage drop
  • Added salt fog protection with conformal coating and sealed connections
  • Validated system through type testing per IEC 80005-1
