The Challenge

An industrial IoT startup needed a field gateway enclosure rated IP67 for outdoor plant-floor and pit installations. Their first prototype leaked at cable glands under spray testing, and internal condensation was fogging the radio module. They had industrial design surfaces locked but no production-ready mechanical package — tooling quotes were on hold until sealing, thermal, and mounting were resolved.

Our Approach

  • Defined ingress target (IP67) with test configuration: cabled, vented, DIN-rail mounted
  • Designed continuous gasket groove with compression stops on a two-part aluminum chassis
  • Specified cable gland layout, gland plate thickness, and torque sequence for field install
  • Added ePTFE vent membrane for pressure equalization without water ingress
  • Ran thermal path analysis for sealed box — heat spread to enclosure wall and external fin option
  • Delivered STEP, flat patterns, and drawing package with IP test build standard
