The Challenge
A manufacturing startup received CNC quotes 40% apart on the same aluminum enclosure parts — and their CAM programmer flagged unreachable internal radii and deep pocket tools. They needed a DFM/CAM review before cutting production quantities for an industrial IoT product line.
Our Approach
- Reviewed STEP models for tool access, minimum internal radii, and depth-to-diameter ratios
- Standardized corner radii to shop's preferred end-mill set; added chamfers where fillets were cosmetic-only
- Relieved deep pockets with draft-friendly floors and split setups documented
- Produced marked-up PDF and revised STEP with DFM change log
- Aligned drawing tolerances to functional datums only — reduced machining time on non-critical faces
